Mockers vs The Wise ones

Updated: May 11, 2022

Proverbs 14:6 "The mocker seeks wisdom and finds none, but knowledge comes easily to the discerning."

Insight: How many times have you encountered a mocker in your life? Someone who mocks you for your faith and believes they know so much more than you. The sad truth is that their "wisdom" is based on nothing but the world—remember that! Your wisdom is based on God, the rock on which we stand, and our savior. It's not easy to deal with the mockers of our world—they tear us down and make us feel like we are the fools. The only way to combat a mocker is by clinging to God's wisdom. Our flesh fails every day and the world tells us every opposite reality than the one we know, but it is our faith in Christ that gives us the ability to stand in truth above it all. The reality is that mockers are just one of the many difficulties we face as Christians—we will be mocked for our faith, our discernment, and our ways, but there is complete victory in Christ. The "mocker" may believe that they have wisdom, but it is only through God that we truly receive any wisdom. We must take heart and know that the world may seem against us but we have a God that is for us!

Work application: Continually seeking God's wisdom is important, even in the workplace. As people that know of God's goodness and His ultimate wisdom, why wouldn't we go to Him with our problems in the workplace? He gives us discernment when we need it and will lead us to make the right decisions as long as we listen to Him and not ourselves. When we find ourselves in situations with mean co-workers or ones who gossip, how do we go to God for discernment? It begins with our posture every single day. At the beginning of our day, are we focusing on the stress of the day ahead of us, or are we thanking God for the opportunity of the work ahead of us? This change in mindset shifts our posture from slumping to the ground in stress to gazing at the God who has blessed us. We must also be prayerful during our workdays! Prayer is a conversation with God that does not need to be hours long. Simple prayers throughout the day to keep your heart postured on God can make all the difference in your day. "Lord please help me with the co-worker who intentionally hurts my feelings every day. I do not know what they are going through, but I pray you give me the patience, love, and understanding when I communicate with them. Thank you for loving them as you love me." A simple prayer like this keeps you from looking inwardly at your flesh that wants to act in anger to looking at the God who acts in love.

Grateful: I am grateful that even though the world may seem against me at times, I know that God is always for me! There is complete wisdom to be found in what He says, and I am grateful I can live my life holding onto that truth in everything I do.
